When Lady GaGa was a little girl, she would sing along on her mini plastic tape recorder to Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper hits and get twirled in the air in daddy's arms to the sounds of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. The precocious child would dance around the table at fancy Upper West Side restaurants using the breadsticks as a baton. And, she would innocently greet a new babysitter in nothing but her birthday suit.
It's no wonder that little girl from a good Italian New York family, turned into the exhibitionist, multi-talented singer-songwriter with a flair for theatrics that she is today: Lady GaGa.
"I was always an entertainer. I was a ham as a little girl and I'm a ham today," says Lady GaGa, who made a name for herself on the Lower East Side club scene with the infectious dance-pop party song "Beautiful Dirty Rich," and wild, theatrical, and often tongue-in-cheek "shock art" performances where GaGa – who designs and makes many of her stage outfits -- would strip down to her hand-crafted hot pants and bikini top, light cans of hairspray on fire, and strike a pose as a disco ball lowered from the ceiling to the orchestral sounds of A Clockwork Orange.
Lady Gaga album "Born This Way" in 2011, sold over 1 million copies in the first week. Amazon sold 440,000 copies of the album in its first two days at a price of 99 cents (at a loss of over $3 million). This contributed to the album's 662,000 digital sales. However, in the second week the album experienced an 84% sales decrease and a 94% digital sales drop. In it's third week the album had a 42% sales decrease and, in the fourth week sales of of the album decreased by another 33%.
When the pop diva goes to Hollywood, she leased this 6 bedroom, 8 bathroom Mediterranean estate in October of 2009. According to listing information the high-walled and gated residence, located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, has 6,143 square feet of interior living space. Amenities include a double height entry with marble floors and a curving staircase, french doors throughout, an office/ library that opens to the pool terrace with outdoor kitchen. The hillside property has a resort-style swimming pool and spa with a terrace that hangs over a canyon with unobstructed panoramic views of the city.
Gawker got a hold of some pics of the real estate, and we have to say, we're surprised. No bloody piano, no closets stuffed with bizarre couture, no ensemble of vinyl-clad back-up dancers, just neatly manicured lawns and your typical McMansion artsy lighting and Jacuzzi tub.
Many might ask why the wacky singer is renting rather than buying when, presumably, she has more than enough money in the bank to muster a healthy deposit for a mortgage.
However, paper work aside, the residents of Bel Air are now set to get their very own pop princess moving into the neighbourhood.
Complete with one acre of grounds and huge swimming pool, the property boasts stunning views across Hollywood and the Pacific Ocean.
